  1. Some reasons why I picked Chinese handcuffs are because the title is very amusing and I can connect to basketball a lot. I am happy with my choice so far because it is very interesting a leaves every chapter on a cliff hanger. My initial thought on the book was what is going to happen in the future because it is kind of confusing at the start. this book is very enjoyable and I cant wait to start reading again!

  2. I am currently reading Chinese Handcuffs. There are 2 main characters one is named Dillon, and the other is Jennifer. Both have been going through a lot. Dillon witnessed his brother shoot himself and Jennifer has suffered sexual assault almost her whole childhood. They both don't talk about it with anyone else. Jen and Dillon are friends because of basketball and Dillon has a crush on her, but also a crush on another girl and he cant decide between the 2. I enjoy the book so far because there is enough going on to keep me engaged in reading and helps keep me interested.

  3. The book I chose to read first is Stotan!. I picked this book because of the hardships that they would face, and the determination they have. I also picked this book because i can closely relate to it through the sports i have played. I am happy i picked this book, and this book has been very interesting so far and very fun to read, im not much of a reader and generally don't like reading, but while reading this book i find myself getting lost in the book and reading for a long time. the story is easy to follow and has a good story line. i really like that the book is set up kind of like a journal where it has dates and what happened on those days. i have been able to make multiple connection throughout the book with many different characters, through their struggles and their hardships.

  4. I chose the book Chinese Handcuffs because I like sports books a lot. Every time i keep reading the book keeps getting better and better with more intriguing chapters. The book at first was a little slow and lost me as I did not know how this book was going to go; Although this book picked up real quick and I think it is starting to become a great book. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes sports and enjoys books with families that have tuff times and have to get through hard obstacles.

  6. The book i chose was Chinese Handcuffs. I chose this book because it was the one that grabbed my attention. the two main characters are Dillon and Jen. the got closer during basketball season and Dillon kind of has a crush on her. But they both have serious trauma. Jen was sexually assaulted by her dad then also by her step dad. She is not allowed to tell people because her step dad will kill her family. While Dillons trauma was when his brother killed himself infront of him. But unlike Jens, everyone knows what happened to Dillon. they both finally talked about their traumas to each other but Dillon is swored to secrecy because he promised Jen. The book is so interesting so far and i can not wait to see what happens next.

  7. I am currently reading the book Chinese Handcuffs. I did not get to choose this book because I was on vacation when the class chose the books. The two main characters in the book is Dillon and Jennifer. Jennifer is a basketball star and has been sexual assaulted her whole life by all the men her mom had over. I enjoy reading the book because it always has something interesting going on. The book is definitely interesting because Dillon and his brother Preston put a cat into a bag and started beating it on the ground, and when Jennifer got hurt and was in the hospital from a basketball game she made her coach take her younger sister home because she was scared if she went home something would happen to her. I do not have any connections to this book right now

I also chose this book because Dillon and Jennifer stories sound really interesting. Dillon and Jennifer are the main characters in the book. Also i like reading about peoples personal life's and this book is about mainly Dillions personal life. 18. I am reading the book Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes. I chose this book because the summary sounded interesting and I did not want to read something completely around sports. As of right now I am disappointed with my book. It jumps around from past to present with little context. The book is also boring, because it speaks from the main characters pov, Eric. I do not really about what Eric says right now. Its focusing on who he has a crush on, his current friends, and swimming. I care more about what is going on with Sarah. Like what happened to make her shut down and become mute and is she potentially faking? I relate to this book because I am a high school student and have witnessed how some people react to others disabilities/ differences.

In terms of theme, this book was more unique to its' premise as far as a sports story goes. It is about decisions of moral integrity over pride, as well as coming of age. 20. I chose Chinese Handcuffs because the title seemed really interesting. I assumed the story was going to be taking place in China with a character who did something bad and is getting arrested. What a silly prediction! But that's not what happens in this book. What happens though is that 2 separate characters. Each going through a death of a family member. I'm liking the book but the timeline could use some work because one part of the book takes place in the present and in a short period of time it takes place in the past. It's all over the place. But It's still the beginning. I hope I can make sense of the plot as I progress.

  21. I chose Staying Fat For Sarah Byrnes because the description sounded the most interesting of all the books. Right now I think that the book is very slow moving except for the flashbacks. I think that the book should have been formatted a little better because it's hard sometimes to figure out when a flashback is occurring and when it's the present. The story is told by Eric and he is boring, he doesn't have a lot of personality to him besides swimming.

It's very slow and it's difficult to know when the story is jumping between present time and flashbacks. I also find the main character to be a little boring and I only look forward to the scenes with characters like Sarah and Dale because they have more personality. The pacing is sometimes strange because it goes back and forth between scenes that are quick moving and then to five boring pages about swimming terminology.

  25. There were two reasons for choosing Stotan! – (1) I enjoy books with multiple main characters, reading the review seemed most akin to that, and (2) I did not have any feelings for “I have to read this book, no questions asked,” so they all seemed like decent options to me. I’ve been enjoying reading this book since the beginning. The story isn’t slow-paced nor dull, and I can appreciate that. As for connections, I could definitely improve on that.

I think that running loose is a good book because some of the scenarios that you read about are some you actually see in high school. Every high school has that one jock person who thinks they are better than everyone and thinks they can do what ever they want. This book shows that with Boomer, Boomer thinks he is better than everyone and gets in peoples way for them to get better.

The book is very enjoyable and I am forming many connections with characters and their emotions.

  32. The book I received was Stotan!, which was my number one pick. So far, the book isn't what I was expecting it to be, the book is about 4 swimmers going through a strenuous workout week together. I wasn't really expecting it to jump right into stotan week (which is the workout week), but I don't really like how you don't learn much about the characters in the beginning. You only start learning more in the middle, which is during stotan week. There is also spots in the story with random information that doesn't seem relevant to the storyline.

  35. My name is Nathan Jaeger and my book is Running Loose. This book was in my top 3 because I liked how the summary sounded it made me feel as if the book was going to be interesting. I also chose this book because I like football and that's what the books partially about. I am very happy with my choice so far just because how interesting and easy it is to read. The book has many parts were you want to keep reading to find out what happens next. Such as Louie walking off the field mad because no one cared about how Boomer did a bad hit on Washington just because the color of his skin. The book is very good so far.

  36. The book I am reading is staying fat for Sarah Byrnes. This book was not in my top 3. At the binging of the book I found it very confusing and not interesting at all, but as time went on it starting to speed up and get less confusing. I haven’t made any connections in the book yet, but I hope that I soon do.

  37. I was given the book Staying Fat For Sarah Byrnes because I was on vacation, however I am still satisfied with it. The beginning is slow, as it is with most books, but I think I like the characters so far. Eric is the narrator who is Sarah Byrnes best friend. He seems like he just goes with the flow and does whatever anyone says. Sarah is the opposite, she says whatever is on her mind and seems stubborn. I enjoy how the author writes with flashbacks of their friendship, because that gives us a better understanding of the characters. I am excited to see how the book picks up the pace.

  39. I am reading running loose. I usually do not like reading books at all but this book i somewhat like reading. I like the plot because it involves sports and the characters are interesting. Would i read this book again? Probably not but ill see if I will when I am done reading it. Boomer being the typical jock/bully that bullies the other kids is normal to me. The bully typically bullies the nerdy type kids but in this book he mainly bullies Louie who is a regular student athlete with a girlfriend. I Like this book and the characters

    1. That was also my first impression of Boomer. Do you think he will get any nicer, or still be the mean bully?

As I read the book more I see that it is actually a very interesting book and that the story line is very interesting so far. I like how the beginning of the book started by just introducing all the characters and summarizing Loiues life, leaving no uncertain areas.
