The endings of Chinese Handcuffs, Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, Running Loose, and Stotan! leave the reader with some unanswered questions. Chris Crutcher assumes the reader knows the ending, but he doesn't come out and say it. You take control and write the overview of one more chapter to these books. If there was one last chapter, what would it be about. How would you tie up loose ends, if you were the author?
If there was one more chapter in this book I would want it to be about what happened to TB. Did he get locked up? Did he lose his attorney license? and I want to know if Dillon's parents every get back together? or if Dillon and Jennifer every get together? I would want the book to end so that the reader has no questions about what could happen.

DeleteI agree with this comment because I was also wondering what would happen to TB. The cliff hanger this book left was difficult on everyone who finished it because we never knew some answers that would've been helpful if we knew the whole ending.
DeleteI agree. I think if these were added it would allow for the reader to understand the novel better. Clearing things up at the end I think would make readers maybe want to read another one of Chris's books.

DeleteIf there was one more chapter in Stotan! i would add more clarity to what happens after the last chapter. i would tie up the loose ends and the conflicts that are still left unknown at the end. I would solve the conflict with Marty O'Brian, i would would go into more detail about Jeff and how he's doing, adn lastly talk about how walker finally talked to Devnee about how he feels.

DeleteThat is a great way to end the book. I like how you incorporated Walker and Devnee into it, especially since he has been back and forth between women all book long.
DeleteI agree as well, they just leave you hanging and you never find out if Walker and Devnee stay together or if he breaks up with her.
DeleteIf the author of Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes ever wrote another chapter I hope it would answer these questions. Will Sarah's dad ever get out of prison? Will he go after her? Did Sarah find peace? Will she get surgery to restore her face or embrace it? Will Sarah and Eric continue being friends in the future or will they grow apart? I wish the author would've fully answered these questions.

DeleteI agree I hoped Sarah found peace, maybe working at the group home in Kansas she spoke of earlier. I also hope Sarah and Eric would have continued being friends, because they were friends through the toughest times.

DeleteIf there was one more chapter of Chinese Handcuffs, I would add in exactly what happened to Jen's step father, and what happened with Jen her mom and the new baby on the way. I think it would wrap up the book perfectly and leave a closed ending so readers wouldn't have so many questions at the end. Because it was such a big part in the last few chapters, it would be helpful if those things were included in the ending of the book so it wasn't left on such a cliff hanger.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this comment. The ending in Staying fat for Sarah Byrnes left some gaps. My book had the ending of what happened to Sarah's father. It wasn't quite a big cliff hanger but it left unanswered questions.
DeleteI also agree this book left us on a cliff hanger and not a good one. We have so many questions about what would happen if there was more chapters. I also was wondering what happened with TB and Jens mom all of it was a mess.

If there was one more chapter of Chinese Handcuffs I would want to know what happened to TB. I want to know if he lost his license or if he ends up getting locked up in jail. I would also want to know what happens to Jens mom during her pregnancy and what she thinks of TB after the whole situation. Another thing I would want to know is if Jen and Dillion get together in the end.

DeleteLouie ends up getting caught destroying Beckys plaque but Jasper and Louie come together and agree that jaspers name will not be on the 3rd plaque. Louie ends up being good friends with Washington and confesses what had happened and the true meaning on why he hurt him. Boomer and his dad come together and forget about the past. that would be my ending to the story.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think there is a need for Louie to destroy Becky's plaque. He had feelings for Becky so why would he destroy the plaque? Do you think he feels disappointed in himself, feel like he let down Becky or do you think he feels like what he has done was well deserved.

DeleteIf there was another chapter for Running loose I would want to to know what Louie does after high school like it sort of ends on a bad ending it should of at least started a little bit on his life outside of high school without all of the drama and what has to happened to him like getting bullied by Boomer and also Becky's death. Does he reflect on that after high school what kind of person does he turn out to be?

DeleteIf I could write one more chapter of Stotan!, the chapter would have to be a fast paced chapter, mainly because of all the loose ends we are left with. Some things that I would include in this last chapter are if Jeff survives his cancer, which I am going to go with no. Because of this I would fast forward to graduation in which the boys would have a memorial speech for him. Walker, Nortie, and Lion would all write a nice letter to him and they would look at it as a celebration of life, even though his life ended a lot earlier than anticipated. The last few pages would talk about where they are attending college next year, if they are, and would end with a final hug goodbye.

DeleteI agree, because in the beginning of the book they talk about what they want to do after high school , so I am curious to see what they actually end up doing.
DeleteIf I were the author of "Staying Fat For Sarah Byrnes" I would write the answers to some questions the actual author left me with. Perhaps fast forward 3 years when they are in college and see how each of the characters are doing. Did Sarah Byrnes ever go to that group home in Kansas to work there? Is Eric swimming in college alongside Ellerby? Is Eric still with Jody? Do Sarah and Eric still keep in touch? Is Lemry still working for the school? I would have liked to read another chapter that shows when the characters settled down, leaving all of the madness behind them.

DeleteI read Stotan and if I wrote one more chapter it would be one graduation day, The gang would all be there except maybe Jerry, he might have died by then. But if he hadn't died he would have gotten better and was getting back to the way he was in the beginging of the book. Walker and Devnee would still be together and everyone's happy.

DeleteIf I were the Author to "Staying Fat For Sarah Byrnes" and I was writing another chapter to the book I would write about how Sarah and Eric ended out. After reading the book I found myself thinking about what Sarah and Eric would be like in the future and if the are okay now. Like is Sarah in collage or is Sarah and Eric still friends. I also think that if there was another chapter it should say something about Sarah's dad breaking out of jail years later and on the hunt to find Sarah and Eric in the future . I think by ending the book with this I can make the readers want to keep reading and find out more, witch would let me write another book about what happened next.

For example you could write about if he went to college or the workforce. You could also write about how his relationships with everyone in the story has changed.

Would Eric’s mom go back to him after that, she seemed pretty up set that he never told her he was in the army and would she like the fact that he beat up a person even though it was for her son. I would also want to know what happened to Sarah. Did she finally come out and say what really has been happening to her all her life? I would also like to know did Sarah change after being adopted by Cynthia Lemry. Did she stop getting into fights? Lastly, I wonder if Dal ever became friends with Eric and Sarah again after helping Eric out so much with Sarah.

Will T.B. ever come back after Jennifer and her family? I would also want to know what will happen to Jennifer's mom baby and if they would tell the baby about her father. He should go on telling about how far Jennifer got in life, like does she go around telling her story to other kids. There should also be a part about Jennifer and Dillon and how there relationship grows. I think this would be a good ending to the book so we know where everyone is at in the future. So that it wont leave anyone with a whole lot of questions.

ReplyDeleteIf I were to write another chapter in running loose, i would write about Louie's life after he graduated. You would be able to see all of the relationships he kept or got rid of, the job his has, College maybe. The main thing I would also write about is if he ever gets into another relationship after the death of his last one with Becky.

DeleteIf I were to write another chapter I would do a 20 years later. I would have boomer in jail for racial discrimination and attempted murder. Louie would still be active and running with a few 2 mile medals under his belt. Carter would still be athletic and Louie’s best friends. Jasper would have been fired for being closed minded.

Like T.B going to jail, seeing if Dillon's family becomes one again, or even seeing if Jen and Dillon end up together in the end. That is how i would want a final chapter to be.

ReplyDeleteIf there was another chapter I would like to see Sarah get some justice in her life by confronting her dad in jail about what he did to her, her mom, and Eric. I think that it would be good for him to be put in his place by the person that he hurt the most, and it would be safe for Sarah to talk to him because there would be guards all over and they could meet through the plastic screen with the phone.

DeleteIf there was another chapter in Running Loose I would like it focused on Louie's life after high school. How he has grown and matured since high school and losing Becky. Would Louie move away like he always said he would? OR would he stay in Trout and have a new significant other?

I would like to know what Eric does in the future as in what job he pursues. I also want to know what happens to Brittain. Knowing how the rest of Sarah’s life would be cool to know. I would want Eric to become a therapist when he gets older cause i think that job would fit him very well.

I think that at some point Dillion and Jennifer will be together but I dont think its the right time since Jennifer has gone through so much in her life. I also wonder if Tb will ever come back. What will Jennifer do with her story will she share it?

Or the alternative angle of what he could have done instead of going to college and moving on to life his life instead.

If there was one more chapter in Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes I would want it to talk about Sarah's life as she is now adopted by Lemry. I would want to know if she ever goes back to group therapy to share her story like she said she wanted to.

Him possibly coming to a conclusion to not destroy the plaque anymore because its not going to get changed. Louie and Washington becoming friends. Louie advancing to college and running track and becoming really good at the sport.

I would like to see what all the boys end up doing after high school and how their lives turn out after graduation, And their relationships and who they end up with.

I think the book leaves the reader wondering what happens in the rest of their lives and only gives the reader just a short bit about what they do.
ReplyDeleteIf there was one more chapter in the book Running Loose I think it would be about tying up every other side characters stories like Boomer and Dakota went from being two of the most important characters in the book to not really heard of at the end of the book. I think it would also talk about Louie's future plans.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I would have to make the extra chapter about how Sarah's dad escapes from jail and goes straight for Sarah. He would kidnap her trying to go back to Mrs.Lemry's house. They realize she never got home and they get the news that her dad got out and they have to save her from her dad. I feel like that would be a really good plot twist.

If I was the offer I would write about how Jen has to testify against T.B. and she was too afraid to see him again but Dillon shows up and helps her through it.

DeleteAnother Chapter I would write in Chinese Handcuffs is where they showed the events with Jennifer after she got mad at Dillon for revealing her secret about her murderous stepdad. While Dillon visited Ms. Crummet to apologize for killing her cat, what is Jennifer doing? Will she get less mad at Dillon for revealing her secret and slowly be glad he did it?
